The Hospitals of Providence Unveils New State-of-the-Art Electrophysiology Catheterization Laboratory

Apr 3, 2024

In its continued commitment to expand access to services and care for East El Paso, The Hospitals of Providence East Campus has unveiled a new state-of-the-art Electrophysiology Catheterization Laboratory, to better treat patients with heart arrhythmias.

The catheterization lab is now fully equipped to perform electrophysiological (EP) studies to evaluate the heart's electrical system and to assess for abnormal heart rhythms.  During an EP study, doctors are able to create a very detailed map of how these signals move between each heartbeat.

“We are truly excited to expand this needed service to our patients in East El Paso,” said Dr. Ali Nasur, Interventional Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist. “These studies can help us determine the cause of arrhythmias and ultimately help determine the risk of sudden cardiac death.”

An EP Study is an invasive test that uses heart catheters to capture signals and detect any arrhythmias.  An arrhythmia is when the heart beats too slowly, too fast, or in an irregular way.

“East El Paso is growing tremendously fast and it is critically important that our patients have these needed services close to home,” said Tasha Hopper, Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence East Campus. “We are proud to expand cardiology care for our patients and our community.”
